Dr. Bill Greene retired after 27 years as a Urologic Surgeon. He has been a Rotarian for 8 years. His focus has been on Haiti, the third poorest country in the world. He has made 8 medical mission trips, performed more than 100 surgical procedures and raised nearly $2 million in aid and medication.
His focus has gradually morphed to fill the needs of the Haitians. He has received 2 Rotary Matching Grants for water projects totaling $150,000.
Recognizing the importance of education in escaping from poverty, he has recently raised $150,000 for scholarships to allow impoverished children to attend school. The construction of a school in Gorman is a developing project.
He also volunteers in the prisons of South Carolina. He has created a PowerPoint program entitled, "The Passion of Our Lord through the Eyes of a Surgeon." This message of love, hope and salvation has been presented to 3,000 inmates. He combines the presentation with donated copies of "The Purpose Driven Life," to assist prisoners to find their true purpose in life, away from the penal system.
